A mini-documentary of a cattle drive and branding at Clayton and Modesta Williams Happy Cove Ranch in Alpine, Texas.

I'd been to the ranch many times over the years to work on television
spots for ClayDesta Communications, Claytie's run for Governor, United Supermarkets and an interview with Claytie and Mike Cochran (author of
Clayton's biography.) But, this was the first time I actually got to experience and shoot a working day at the ranch.
It was very interesting knowing that this process has been going on for centuries with not much change, except the modern vaccines given to the calves during the process. It's such an experience to see how orchestrated and beautiful it was, especially in the gorgeous Davis Mountains.
The only downside, besides the extremely cold morning, was the smell.
You can't imagine what burning cowhide smells like, until you witness it.
It's something I'll never forget.

Gotta admit it's not often that I flash
a "Gig 'Em" sign...but let's face it...
"When in Rome..."
